DESPINA ZOGRAFOS
Despina Zografos is an artist whose creative vision is deeply rooted in the intricate realms of hand-cut paper, cyanotype, and solar plate etching. Skillfully blending layers of meticulously crafted paper with acrylic paint or employing alternative photographic techniques, she delves into the exploration of light, shadow, and geometric motifs. Drawing inspiration from her own shadow, the delicate patterns of spiderwebs, and the nostalgic designs of her beloved family doily heirlooms, Zografos crafts compositions that beckon viewers into a world of geometric wonder. Through meticulous repetition, playful variations in shape, and subtle shifts in scale, her artwork transforms into stunning abstract expressions.
Born and raised in Crete, Greece, Despina Zografos now lives and works in Long Island, New York. She holds an MSc in Art Therapy from Queen Margaret University (Edinburgh, Scotland), a BFA from the Athens School of Fine Arts (Athens, Greece), and a BA in French Language and Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University (Athens, Greece).
